A lot of people have emailed me about my comments stating that the PS3 can't scale the outputs.

We'll I posed the question to a few PS3 developer friends of mine and the consensus is that the PS3 does not include ANY scaler hardware to speak of... NONE... what you render to is what you get, which would explain why they can't scale 720p games to 1080i for those with older CRT based HDTVs.

Based on comparisons of the 360 and PS3 versions of THP8 the 360 version was found to have more detail and overall better graphics (though the differences are small), they both have frame rate problems but the PS3 suffers them worse. So if you're correct in your assumption they accomplished their goal. However I believe the PS3 version is FORCED to support 720p simply because it does not have an internal scaler so the game graphics have to be output at the desired resolution. I suppose in some ways this is keeps developer's resolution numbers honest, but the scaler is IMO one of the best features of the 360 so I wouldn't exactly call it a benefit to no have one.

This is really sad, but I don't think this stems from activision not reaching 720p. I think MS put pressure on acti to push the 360 as far as possible to try and create a better visual and graphical version then the ps3 one. But in doing so activision went to far, and instead of lowering the textures and visuals, which probably would have resulted in a version looking less then the ps3 one. They opted for lowering the resolution and using the built in cheat scaler to make everyone believe the game still is 720p.
